WHAT ARE WARTS?

Warts are skin coloured, hard bumps on your skin caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). It looks like a small growth on the skin like a solid boil or a small cauliflower. These growths may itch sometimes, but most often they give no symptoms at all. The medical name of wart is Verruca.

Contrary to popular belief, moles and warts are completely different. The procedure of mole removal and wart removal however is very similar.

WWHAT ARE THE TYPES OF WARTS?

COMMON WARTS (VERRUCA VULGARIS)

Common warts grow on your fingers and toes. But they can appear on other parts of your body as well. They have a rough surface and a dome-shaped top. Common warts look more gray than the surrounding normal skin.

PLANTAR WARTS

Plantar warts grow on the soles of the feet. These warts grow into your skin and can make walking uncomfortable. You may notice small holes in the bottom of your foot surrounded by hardened skin.

FLAT WARTS (VERRUCA PLANA)

Flat warts usually grow on the face, thighs, or arms. They are small and hard to notice with naked eyes. Flat warts have a flat top and appear brownish.

FILIFORM WARTS

Filiform warts grow around your mouth or nose and sometimes on your neck or eyelids. They are small and shaped like skin tags. Filiform warts are the same color as your skin.

PERIUNGUAL WARTS

Periungual warts grow under and around the toenails and fingernails. They can be painful and disrupt the shape of your nail.

WHAT CAUSES WARTS?

Common warts are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). The virus enters the outer layer of skin, via a scratch. Once it infects the skin, it causes rapid growth of cells on the outer layer of skin. This forms a wart.

WHAT IS THE BEST TREATMENT FOR WART REMOVAL IN MUMBAI?

CHEMICAL CAUTERY

In this wart treatment method, we apply 50% to 70% trichloroacetic acid (TCA) or salicylic acid to the wart. The acid gives a white frost and immediately starts to destroy the infected wart cells.

Over the next few days, the wart forms a crust and sheds off. This method is best for wart removal in children. You may need 2-3 such application sessions which are 2 weeks apart.

IMMUNOTHERAPY

This method stimulates your immune system to remove warts naturally. We apply a medicine called diphencyprone (DCP) to the warts. This triggers your immune system to launch an allergic reaction against the warts. The warts get inflamed and fall off after a few days.

CYTOSTATIC METHOD

In this wart removal treatment, we inject Bleomycin into each wart. These injections can be painful, but it assures that the warts do not recur. You will need Bleomycin injections every 3 weeks till the warts fall off.

CRYOTHERAPY

This method works by freezing warts with liquid Nitrogen. Liquid nitrogen is applied to the wart tissue. This freezes the blood vessels of the wart and a blister forms underneath it.

RADIO FREQUENCY

Wart removal with Radio Waves is the safest and quickest treatment option. Electro-cautery or radiosurgery includes burning the wart.

We apply a local anesthesia cream for 30-45 minutes before the procedure. Once the wart is numb, we zap it with RF which makes the wart evaporate. This wart removal surgery is painless and heals without scars.

LASER WART REMOVAL

Laser wart removal uses a laser beam focused on the wart. The wart tissue heats up and separates from the normal skin. Healing takes a long time with this method. And chances of side effects such as scarring are more.
