What are acne scars?

Acne scars are the pits that occur on the skin as a result of acne. When pimples heal, they cause a permanent change in the texture of the skin. An acne scarring is the result of severe or inflammatory acne.

This does not include brown spots that appear as a result of blackheads, whiteheads or zits. We call those ‘post inflammatory pigmentation’ (PIH) or post acne pigmentation. The ideal way to treat PIH is with pigmentation treatment.

Best acne scar treatment in Mumbai.

We offer many advanced cosmetic dermatology acne scar treatments at Bhayandar West, Thane. Acne scars need a combination of various treatments depending on the type of scarring on your skin. Here are the best options that have given our patients best acne scar repair results.

Dermaroller Microneedling

Microneedling with a dermaroller is the most result oriented acne scar treatment. This is not to be mistaken for microneedling with a dermapen. Dermapen is best for superficial microneedling for skin rejuvenation.

Deep dermarolling at 1.5 mm to 2 mm depth is best for rolling scars. Dermaroller with PRP or dermaroller with Growth Factor Concentrate improves the treated area every time. You will need a minimum of 4 sessions at 4 week intervals.

Chemical peels

Chemical peels containing peptides, pyruvic acid and phenolic acid help in acne scar reduction. They work best as boosters to the dermaroller treatment.

A pyruvic peel done 1 week after microneedling enhances scar repair by manyfolds. Lactic acid and Salicylic acid peels completely remove dark spots and dead skin cells. These are ideal if active acne lesions are present.

PRP Skin Treatment

Platelet Rich Plasma or PRP is the healing part of your own blood. PRP skin treatment involves blood collection followed by centrifugation. The PRP is then injected into the scars with an eyelash-like needle.

When this is done, the healing factors from your blood heal the scars. I usually combine PRP with dermaroller, subcision and laser resurfacing.

Microneedling RF

Microneedling RF or MNRF is an energy based device. It looks like a laser but it uses radiofrequency waves and not light waves. When the microneedles penetrate the skin they give a burst of RF energy.

This makes the treatment on deeper scars. Microneedling RF gives very good results in adult acne scars as it can cause skin tightening.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser treatment for acne scars is done with carbon dioxide CO2 fractional laser, Fraxel laser or Erbium Glass laser. This method of collagen production works best in lighter skin types.

The only downside of laser therapy is the long down time and post laser pigmentation. Ablative lasers are no longer used. Dr. Vivek Mishra specializes in laser acne scar treatment in Mumbai. You will need a minimum of 4 sessions at 6 week intervals. Also, skin care treatment in the form of sunscreen and moisturizer are important in laser acne scar removal.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid (ha). Ha is a natural polysaccharide that is a part of your skin. Dermal fillers cause immediate improvement in acne scars. But the effect is temporary.

You will need to repeat the filler procedure once every year. Dermal fillers are best for those looking for a quick albeit temporary acne scar removal.

Botox

Micro-botox is botox treatment in a higher dilution. It relaxes the tension within the skin. This improves the scars within a few days.

Botox also gives an amazing glow on the skin and also controls oiliness. The effect lasts for 3 to 4 months after which you need to repeat the procedure.

TCA Cross

Tca cross is the most effective treatment when it comes to ice pick scars. This procedure involves application of high strength TCA into the ice pick scar. This procedure causes re-healing of the scars and makes them shallower.

ACNE SCAR REMOVAL SURGERY

Acne surgery is helpful in severe scars. Cosmetic surgery procedures such as subcision, punch elevation, dermabrasion and scar excision give good results. Boxcar scars respond well to subcision.
